My daughter is learning to play the guitar and I need to buy her one - can anyone tell me a decent brand and approximately how much I should pay for a beginner's guitar? Any recommendations for shops in the Sutherland Shire that sell guitars would also be helpful.

Google or Yahoo Esteban Guitar. You should find a package that comes with a case, nice guitar, dvd on how to play and a bunch of bonus stuff. Ive been in a rock band for almost 10 years and when I got this I couldnt believe what a great deal it was! My older brother came to my house and thought it was a $800 guitar. I told him the deal I got and he bought the same package. He loves it! This is a good guitar for both beginners and legends.
Go to esteban-guitars.com. Package should be no more than $200 bucks.

I got a decent Rogue acoustic for about $150. Great beginning guitar, and you won't regret it if your daughter decides she doesn't want to play guitar anymore.

And don't take sastra's advice. Never walk into a music store and ask for the best money can buy, those guys are always commissioned, so of course they'll take you right over to the high-dollar stuff. Just play around at the store, talk to other guitarists you might know and gain some knowledge of what you think your daughter would like best.

if she doesn't need an acoustic-electric guitar, I would HIGHLY recommend the Taylor Big Baby. I bought it on a whim and have owned it for about 2 years now. I love it. The body is 15/16th size, but the fretboard is a regular size, so it's perfect for more petite people. I think i got mine for $400 including tax, but you might be able to do better.

Alvarez makes a great guitar and are fairly reasonably priced. They cost somewhere between $200 and $400 for "beginner" guitar.

Yamaha DG-8 is an inexpensive guitar with a smooth tone.

Spanish guitar. I understand that is the best for a beginner. Ask a good music shop for the best money you can buy.

Don't spend too much. She may not keep playing. You can buy a yamaha for about 150.00.

If you can afford one, Gibson is the best in my opinion. They are not cheap.
