The tap should be destroyed !
And a funeral is up to the family, so if his wife and dad agree on it being private that is the way is should be.
The media is butting into private lives way to much.

As such a tragic event that Steve Irwin's death is, I think it is inappropriate that anyone should see that gruesome tape. Thank God that the tape is being destroyed. For one thing, he has small children and a wife. Why in the world would anyone want to chance exposing the sight of a father's death to a child? Lord knows, it would end up on the internet or in a tabloid picture. How would Irwin's wife explain that to her children?
I think that the whole world should just allow people the time to grieve and mourn a loved one and not be so concerned about viewing the details of death. It is honestly not any better than the paparazzi's style of obtaining pictures of celebrities such as Princess Diana and others that have passed away tragically and gruesomely.
It is time to let the family have their own time to mourn Steve in their own way and we, as a nation, may mourn him in our own way, but to want to see the tape of his sudden demise is just sick and twisted. Really is sad to know that there are people that would be curious enough to want to reveal to their eyes such a horrible event. And I think it just goes to show that the media capitalizes on these things in ways that are just not necessary.
By the way, awesome question!!

I hope to God this is true! The tape should never have been mentioned, even tho I assumed there was one coz he was filming a doco, it didn't need to be confirmed.
The last moments of his life do not need to be viewed by the world. Why should we remember him as he died? Remember the man who made us laugh, remember him jumping around saying 'Crikey!', and most importantly, remember that he left a wife and two beautiful children who need compassion, support, and respect from the public. Leave this issue alone!!!
The state funeral thing, tho, I think they should have a private family funeral and a state funeral, but at separate times. Let the family deal with it first, and decide what they want to do, without the pressure from the public at this time in their lives.
Maybe a state memorial would be a better idea instead?
God, some people on here are complete idiots!! Get a load of your answers, guys! Separate the decent from the worthless!!!

I agree that the tape should be destroyed. Those are not images his children need to see. Ever.
But oddly, I disagree with the funeral arrangements. His father says he wants his son to be remembered as a private person. But we are talking about a guy who SHARED his life with so many others. A legend. His funeral should be shared with all those that admired and loved him.

Good and Great!
good about the funeral, the family doesnt need a bunch of cameras shoved in their face and heap of unknowners as they say goodbye to Steve, we can have a memorial to pay our respects.
great about the footage - only people that would watch it are Cork Heads, but atleast now it wont turn up somewhere that his kids may see it.

Only the law and the family (if they desire) should see the footage.
Unfortunately, I believe it will make the rounds on the internet. Some scumbag publication will bribe the right official and get their greasy hands on a copy.
If something like this does happen, I hope the owners of the footage, Law and the family goes after them and gets them - legally and in the back alley. Just my irrational opinion.
