I went to clinic today and was given Augmentin XR to treat a bladder infection. I was given some samples. It looks like they were good through 03/06. Are they safe to take?

drugs are usually good two years past their expiration date, but they start to lose potency and won't be as effective as time goes on...

my advice to you is to return to the clinic and have them give you mediation that is not expired. bladder infections can spread into the kidneys and cause them to become infected-these infections are very painful and sometimes require hospitalization for i.v medication to get rid of the infection so it's important to make sure you get treated accurately

The military has been doing tests on the shelf life of drugs for several years now. They have found that shelf lives, as given on the drug container, are generally way short of what the actual shelf life is. That allows the drug manufacturer to sell more drugs, thus making more money. The military has found that the drugs maintain their potency for several years beyond what is stated.

It's only 6 months. They are probably fine. The exp. date only states how long a stated drug will have it's maximum desired effect.
