People who are rude to you for no reason *cough* *cough* Tim D *cough* should not even waste time typing a response, especially a level 1 who just likes to tick people off. I wish I knew why it is that when I ask a serious question, some people are rude. When I ask a fun question the people are very polite. I say this to anyone who has read this far.......WTF is going on in the world! Plus I'm only human, and now as an act of spite I'm gonna go through all of Tim D's questions and yell at him/her for improper grammar and spelling.

Several have said polygamy means having more than one WIFE at the same time. Not precisely.

While this is the typical form of polygamy, and having multiple husbands is usually specified as polyandry (literally "many men"), the word polygamy does not actually specify wives. It literally means --gamos is Greek for "marriage".. The precise term to specify having multiple wives is "polygyny" (from Greek "gune" meaning "woman, wife").

Not to make a big deal about the spelling, but it is very useful to know that the word begins wiht "poly" since you will often run across this Greek word as part of an English word. Knowing that "poly" means "many" will make it easier to understand OTHER English words (from polygon and polygraph to polyphonic and polysyllabic).

Polygamy -- mutliple spouses simulataneously. I'm not an advocate of polygamy, but I do find it amusing how it is looked down upon in the US, yet multiple divorces is perfectly acceptable.

Yes, it's 'polygamy,' and it means having multiple spouses (usually multiple wives.) It's illegal in the US but still practiced in some areas. (Think Utah!)

As your first answerer noted, polygamy is a plenitude of spouses. Paligamy is a corruption of this word in the same sense that palimony is a corruption of alimony. I hope that helps.
