I have heard people say that about older men, when they are driving a sports car and it doesnt fit them, because people typically associate sports cars with youth. I dont agree with that.
I honestly think that the type of cars people drive, is only a matter of preference, taste and affordability. People tend to prefer sports cars in general. I drive a sports car, and have been all my life, I dont think am trying to compensate for anything. I think it fits my life.
Sometimes, and you have to remember that, people can be envious and might say negative things about others, because they cannot have what they have.
So, I guess consider the source of the comment.

People who say that, are the ones who are compensating. It is the same crowd that calls a gun a sex symbol. They actually teach that junk in liberal college courses, when the subject comes up.
The theory is that the drivers are compensating for a subdued sex drive. (They are impotent so they make up for it by driving flashy cars::if you believe)

I dont have a sports car...but if I did, I would do it because I wanted it...not to compensate for anything.
It appears this is an unfounded "rumor"
