I just got done reading God Shaped Hole. It is written by Tiffanie Debartolo. Nothing at all like I expected. Here is why I had to read it, the first line says "When I was twelve a fortune teller told me that my one true love would die young and leave me all alone."
Also, anything by Jodi Picoult. My Sister's Keeper is amazing. Its about a girl who was born to be a donor for her sister who has cancer. When she is 13 she decides she wants medical emancipation. Awesome!

"The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" (Latest Edition) Greg Palast.
"Terrorism, The New World War" Lloyd Pettiford & David Harding.
I like to be informed as to why the world is how it is. These two books contain some frightening facts everyone should be aware of.

Read the Codex and it's sequel Tyrannosaur Canyon by Douglas Preston. Interesting, informative and fairly fast-paced fiction. Check them out. Great author.

"Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut.
Supposed to be a satire, based upon Vonnegut's surviving the bombing of Dresden, Germany during WWII as a US soldier. It's heavy, weird. It was my first Vonnegut novel, I need to be in a happier frame of mind the next time I try one of his novels.

Very well researched and written.
Breaks a lot of illusions we have about what will make us happy.
