NOT A GOOD SIGN: If you are mixed up, you are not ready to commit. Should delay getting married and get couples counseling first.

MY STORY: it would complicate things when you are trying to build a good marital relationship and the families are interfering. You need to know where your loyalty lies. My husband's family came from another country and even though we are of the same nationality I was born in America and apparently have values that are different from his sister's. We both refused to obey and follow the lead of his oldest sister. In my case, my husband (eldest son) had to choose between his family or me: he told me later that his sister called him at work and demanded he make a choice. He chose me -- after that, we never saw his family again even though they live in the area. Other things happened between my husband and oldest sister: A counselor later confirmed that in this case, cutting ties was the right thing to do. My children do not know my husband's family. Luckily, my own family live in the area and our ties are close, so we had them to rely on for social support over the years.

First of all you need to work out your probs w/ur gf before you plan to be engage. If you can't talk this out or try to compromise a solution than the engagement shall be on hold. For what reason does your family dislike your girlfriend. Have they given her a chance to get to know her at all? I suggest and your girlfriend put your engagement on hold until you work this out before you move on to the next level. Engagement is a happy thing I am sure you want your families to be happy and there for you. hope this help
