I painted my room about 3 years ago this beautiful color blue and I need to retouch bad but when I retouch it the paint is glossy while the rest of the old paint is dull. Is there a way to dull the paint or am I going to have to repaint the whole room?

Also if I do have to repaint the room and decide to change colors how many times can you repaint walls before they need to be stripped. I am afraid of putting too many layers on the wall. Also my walls have the popcorn texture.... not sure what its actually technically called.

You will have to repaint the whole room unless you attempt a faux finish using a rag or sponge method to randomly produce a textured finish. This is actually easier to do on a wall that already has a textured finish to it, ie. popcorn, orange peel or knockdown. Check to make sure that the paint you are attempting to touch up with is in the same base - flat, eggshell or gloss.

There is no set standard for how many layers of paint can be put on a wall - you should not have to ever worry about stripping the walls unless it starts to crack or peel.

Make sure the paint you are using for touch-up is mixed well. When paint stands for a long time it separates.

I know of no way to "dull" paint to match, so if thorough mixing doesn't solve your problem, you would have to repaint.

I would not be afraid to put multiple layers of paint on the wall. I have never heard of stripping walls. If your new color is radically lighter from the blue on your wall, then you may need to prime first to cover properly. Since you have a rough texture on the wall, you'll need a roller with a thick nap on it to coat the wall well.

There is no way to dull your paint. If you want to change room colors and you are going with a lighter color you will have to KILZ the room. You really don't have to strip old paint off. If you strip paint off of the walls, you will have to re-texture.

Sorry, you're going to have to repaint.

We have the sand-textured paint on our walls also, and we have painted our living room 4 times since we moved in 7 years ago.

*L* Yes, I know that's a lot, but we like to paint and we like to experiment with color.
Anyway, we have never stripped any paint, so I have no clue. I would ask someone at your local paint store.

You are going to have to do the whole thing. But you might be able to find a gloss and make the whole thing glossy, but I don't think you can dull the gloss.
