From the time of asking this question, mid-night, 9-6-2006, it is only 5 days until the 5 year anniverssary of what has been come to be called 9-11. So I can't help to be thinking about it.

I'm afraid it could happen again.

Since 9-11 we have already seen successful terrorist attacks in London and Madrid. Just yesterday police were supposedly able to prevent a group of people from carrying out a terrorist act in Denmark (see link).

The United States is obviously a prime target for terrorism. I'm afraid that the so-called "War on Terror" has only contributed to creating more potential terrorists and thereby heightened the general risk. Invading Arab nations (or publishing obscene cartoons) is not a positive strategy for obtaining a safer world.

yes and no. first of all, 9/11 wasn't unique. pearl harbor was similar in many ways. technically, 9/11 should be the 2nd pearl harbor. also, more people probably died in New Orleans during Katrina, so yes, it has already happened. but, since people are now so aware about 9/11 and hijacking, you can bet your bottom dollar that any future terrorist will have to beat up every other person in the area to complete their mission.

Bush isn't popular for what he's doing in iraq, but it will definitely reduce the risk of another event of such magnitude. Given the track record of terrorist attacks, it is only a matter of time, I hope and pray they do not succeed, terrorism is a wretched cowardly act committed by cowardly butchers.

60 years ago, Western European countries were at war, which today is completely unthinkable. The world will get increasingly less evil and it's getting more difficult to pull off a terrorist attack on US territory. So, I don't think we'll see another 9/11, but, of course, it can't be ruled out completely
