We did it at my school at the end of the school year. It is very cool. You don't need to shake it up--it reacts very quickly. We found that the Mentos don't fit into the neck of the Diet Coke bottle--so we had to break them up. You do need to run fast because the mints and the coke react almost instantaneously. It is a cool effect though. We had 120 1st grades ooing and ahhing that day.

Has anyone tried diet cola of any other brand? Did Coca Cola and Mentos start this, banking on the always faithful gullibility of the public? Buying the most expensive carbonated colored sugar water on the market and throwing it on the ground for a few seconds of spray. I really shouldn't complain about the cost of fun, after all hundreds are spent to sit on the couch playing PSP and XBox video games.

My son & I did it after seeing the video online. The local country radio station also tried it & took pictures that are posted on their website. You don't have to run but step back quickly or you'll get a Diet Coke bath! My brother did it for the kids at my neice's birthday party on Aug 19th. They did 4 2 liter bottles & used 4 Mentos in each bottle. One bottle really gysered up high. It's fun to watch & do.

The video on youtube that Poindexter showcases is bullpoop. They didn't take the lid off & threw the bottles. You have to unscrew the cap & then drop in the Mentos. DUH!

I tried this about a month ago, what I had done was add 4 of the mint mentos (if you got this from mythbusters you already know why) at one time and quickly moved back a few feet, about half of the bottle came flying out...my kids thought it was great.

Ive done it, we put it in and took a few steps back and it was great.

Then we opened one end up and dropped the entire package in and capped it, waited a minute the smashed the cap against the pavement and it broke and took off like a rocket.

Haven't tried it but seen it on David Letterman awhile back. Very cool.

You just drop it in. We did the same thing 20 years ago with table salt. This isn't anything new.
