This is really apples & oranges.
But if I had to choose it would be John Wayne - who could forget his Rooster Cogburn?
Eastwood was always trying to convince us how tough he was..
And I think JW delivered his lines a little easier than CE.

You got to be kidding. Eastwood runs circles around the Duke. Eastwood acts, directs, and can go from modern to cowboy with ease. John Wayne always looked uncomfortable in those city cop movies he made. Eastwood wins this shootout without John Wayne getting off a single shot.
