1. 2 times 2 = 4. Its sq root is: sq root(4) = 2 and negative sq root would be -2.
2. If you are asking sq root of negative 2 times 2 then it should be: sq root (-4).
This will be imaginary, not real because of rules of algebra say:
+ X + = + and - X - = +.

the answer is a half.. 1/2
this is how you get it ...(2x2)^-1/2....thats just 2 x 2 raised to minus half ..[half is the exponential form of square root]. Since its negative the expression becomes....1/ (2x2)^1/2...one over 2x2 raised to 1/2...in order to convert the negative to a positive..
so when thts solved
1/(2x2)^1/2 = 1/2...voila!
