Ok I went and got a cute little gothic bat on my shoulder today and everyone keeps telling me differnt ways of how I should be taking care of it and they're all contadicting. Right now, I have it uncovered and I am using Tattoo Goo on it. Some say that's not right. Can someone tell me a definite answer please...

first of all congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the tattoo goo or a&d ointment is fine for the first 4 days. don't put it on thick but dont let it dry out. wash your tatto once a day but do NOT scrub. after the fourth day switch to a fragrance and lanolin free lotion for about 2 weeks. put it on 3 or 4 times a day. rub it in like you would lotion anywhere else on your body. do not submerge your tattoo for at least 3 weeks(ocean.lake.pool,ho ttub, bath etc.) it could permanently damage it. congatrs again i have four tattos myself and i love them

I have a couple of tattoos myself and here is what worked for me:

I kept it covered for the first night, and uncovered it the next morning. I used neosporin on it until it completely healed, sometimes four or five times a day. Once the scab comes off you're good to go. I never had an infection or anything.

PS: Stay out of the sun until it heals completely, and even thereafter use a high SPF sunscreen on the tattooed area whenever you go out into the sun, this area is now more sensitive to sunburn.

You know you can ask this question and get 60 zillion different answers. First off Im wondering why your tattoo artist did not give you any aftercare instructions. Now here is my opinion...lol I have 15 tattoos and my husband has 3 times that at least... what we do is leave it uncovered... wash it a few times a day with preferably a non scented soap... we use dial... and then apply a non scented lotion a few times a day... like lubriderm.. and don't pick or scratch when it starts itching...

I washed mine about 5-6 times a day(whenever it would feel slimy, which is what my artist told me to do) and re-applied the goo after each washing. Once it started to heal I used unscented lotion(lubriderm was recommended and I used that.) The other important thing to remember is not to scrub it when you wash it, just rinse it gently, and to keep it out of the sun. That being said, if parts of it get a little bad once its all healed you can probably get it touched up for free by your artist.

I washed mine gently with Dial liquid soap, the orange antibacterial kind. Then applied a thin layer of Cruel lotion. I did this 2X per day. It was well and healed in no time and never got all crusty. He also said if you see any sign of infection, use a tiny amount of neosporin ointment. I'm sure it will be fine. The guy who did mine told me to do this and he was covered in tattoos. Good luck! BTW, I was 42 when I got my first tattoo!

well first of allhaving your first tat is bad ***!every one will remember it and of corse you want to take care of it so it stands out so heres what to do:
1.within the first 24 hrs keep it coverd with a large bandage patch make sure there is neosporin under that though.
2.every day 4 a week after that twice a day wash it with a name brand anti-bacterial soap then right after that put neosporin on it.you want to keep it mosterized 24/7.

stay out of the sun
dont use regular lotion
lay on your stomach when you sleep since its on your shoulder.
dont pick at it.
and dont let it dry out.
trust me after this your tat will look bad ***.im a tat artist.

my husband is a tattoo artist and has always recommended antibacterial ointment , it should stay covered the first 24 hrs and after that keep it clean and moist , never scratch it . cover it with nonstick material when wearing clothing that will touch it . keep it out of the sun till completly healed, should take about a week , alitle longer

when i got mine i used pure vitamin e gel caps i just broke them open a poured the gel on them this owrked best for me...i liked it because it was natural...i dont know whats in tattoo goo ( kind of defeats the purpose anyway because you just put chemical in you body but do what ever you think is right or makes it feel better lol)

Okay when I got my tatoo they told me to keep Neosporin on it for a few days and whatever you do, DON'T PICK THE SCAB!!!! If you pick the scab off, you'll pull the color out of the tatoo. I pulled a little piece of hanging scab and pulled some color out of my tatoo.
