I am four weeks late for my period... At three weeks late I took two pregnancy tests back to back... one in the evening and then one in the morning. They both came up very clearly negative. Now that I still haven't started my period... I am worried that the tests should not have been relied on. Please tell me what the likelihood is that the tests are not accurate and that I am pregnant.

If you want doctor or nurse to answer you, you need to make an appoinment. Not likely that a doctor is going to spend their precious free-time handing out free advice. That said, you need to go in for a blood test because I have known women to be 4 months pregnant and still get - results on a home test, and I have known other women (myself included) that had missed a period and not be pregnant because of low hormones.

try taking the test again. your Hcg levels should be high enough. Have you changed your eating habits or have you been working out hard lately. That can change your cycle. Some other underlying reasons can be the case. You should see your doctor if the test comes back negative again.

I'm not a professional, but you might be pregnant, or might be something else that cause your period to be late.
The best is to go to the Dr., or try a different test.

You might have a bladder infection which will effect your cycle.
Depending on your age, menopause is NOT uncommon in the forties and not so common, even your thirties.
WHEN you go to a clinic and YOU NEED too,
they will determine if your pregnant (for sure) and if you indeed have a bladder infection, they will give you antibiotics for that. GO GET CHECKED!

over the counter tests are highly reliable, I'd do another since your HCG level might be higher now.
