Everyones seen the less fortunite homeless on the side of the road with the signs blessing us all and only asking for whatever we can donate. Now do you drive past them or gather a few couple quarters or crinkled ones and give? As much as i would like to always give i confess i dont always...im always paranoid to whether or not they really need it

I don't give money, some of the guys scare the crap out of me. I know it's wrong to think about but I feel that if I am working MY *** of to support my daughter and myself, why can't these people. I would much rather give food, old clothes and such to them.

Just because you do this, doesn't mean you aren't kind. Society has taught us to not trust these people as we question in our minds as to how they became this way. And Dateline did a story a few years back about panhandlers in CA. They'd dress in ratty clothes, pan handle all day and round the corner to drive away in a Lexus. Therefore we use caution, it doesn't make you mean or less nice.

I, am probably nicer than I should be. There was a homeless family with a sign asking for money near the interstate and I passed them running late for a dentist appt. I turned around, went to the McDonald's and bought them all lunch and gave them the phonebook (I stole from McDonald's) and $10 to call Social Services for assitance. We live in a big city with a ton of help for people in this situation. I just figured, since I knew programs existed, I thought I would help. Sometimes you just have to listen to your heart honey....it rarely steers you wrong.

Some are, and some are not. In NY, I have seen plenty of people on drugs with a roof over their heads trying to scam people with the same signs of some homeless people. I donate my time at shelters where I know I am not being scammed. I remember a so called homeless person approached me and ask for money for food. I offered to buy him a meal from the restaurant that we was standing in front of, and he said never mind! Talk about a scam artist!

Traditionally I don't like to cause I don't know where the money's going, but more recently these people taking up career in begging is annoying. I'm from the states, and even when I went to Australia they were trying to hit me left and right. But most of them didn't even look like there was anything wrong with them at all. Young, healthy people talking about "can you give me some money to get back home" and crap. Society is evolving in some very strange directions.
By the way, I don't like to work either, but come on!

I too am guilty of not always paying attention, but for me there is a reason. My husband and I have worked in the missionary field and we found that too many of the sad stories told to get money, or food, or something for nothing, were not true. I mean this seriously, it was that way 95% of the time.

We gave a man who claimed he was hurting $200 (anonymously) once. We didn't have the money ourselves so we got a cash advance on our credit card. He went to a local discount store and bought all kinds of things for his apartment, but later took them back for a cash refund. He later berated my husband for not being sympathetic enough to his situation--(he didn't know we gave him the money).

Our experiences have been like that and unfortunately it makes one cynical....which is terribly sad.

I gave an Indian lady some change and then I smelled the strong odor of alcohol, did I help her?

I never give them money. But I did give a cheeseburger to a guy that wanted money for food. He probably threw it away, but it's the thought that counts.

I would rather give them food or clothing. I want to be sure they don't do harm to themselves with the money I give. Plus, I usually don't have money to give.
