When I was in high school (5 years ago), it seemed like there was always tons of awesome music coming out as far as rock and heavy music. Today it seems like there is nothing but crap on the rock stations.

Is it because I'm getting older, or is it because music really sucks?

Both. When you're younger pretty much anything sounds good but as you mature so does your taste in music and your standards for it. On the other hand, music that's coming out now is just too damn generic and mainstream. No one really stands apart from each other. I'm still waiting for the next Tori Amos or Shirley Manson. Until then, I have to listen to the likes of Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson...uggghhh!!

It has to do with the corporate take-over of everything. Recording companies, radio stations, talent agencies. They are more concerned with making a quick buck using cheesy talent only preteen girls can be brainwashed into listening to. Looks, fashions, and video have taken the forefront over real talent. For all the real talent out there it is almost digusting the so-called talent they pull off of TV reality shows and try to pawn it off as the next best thing. Thank God there are still people who do know the difference between good music and corporate crap. Check out the smaller recording companies, Internet listings and Satellite radio. You can still find the "good stuff".

Im going to have to say that I feel most music now just plain sucks. You find a decent song here and there, but mostly the stuff on the radio is from a playlist, that the record company paid to promotionally have on there. A great thing about the net though is you can now find all kinds of independent artists that are not influenced by record companies and they are making some decent stuff. You just have to look for it.

I kind of feel that there is some good rock music out there. Groups like My Chemical Romance, Green Day, and Fallout Boys are making some good music.

song won't be crap. it is basically distinctive from what it became right into some years in the past. anybody has their very own selection for song and that may no longer inevitably what's in the charts on the 2nd. i might agree that there are some too many re-releases around at present and that greater human beings ought to create new forms of song. i think of it is basically a demonstration which you're turning out to be old whilst the song of the day does not charm anymore although!

"Is it because I'm getting older, or is it because music really sucks?"

It's because that music really sucks. But it's not just in the last 5 years...more like 10-15...or more. The mainstream record industry doesn't care about music that is "good" or artists that are "talented", they only care about what is marketable. I mean, does anyone honestly think Britney Spears is famous for her FABULOUS singing voice?!? Please!
The record industry just churns out crappy, flavor-of-the-week bands for the sheep. Sad...

It's both! When you get older the new stuff doesn't sound as good as what you are used to in your youth. Today the music does SUCK!

I don't necessarily like what the songs are about but the music I really like is from musicals like from early 90's and earlier

it seems like 1 good song comes out every 8+ months and good albums come out every couple of years. i've noticed that there aren't any new national acts doing the blues anymore. most of the ones that do, have been around for years like the blues brothers, bob dylan, etc.
