The constipation is probably due to the pre-natal vitamins and the change in your diet. Try not to push too much because you don't want to start with hemorrhoids already. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and fresh fruits and vegetables. During my pregnancies, I included dried prunes and figs. Good sources of iron, calcium and fiber. If you don't have a good pregnancy book, get one. It will be a good reference for many of the questions you will have during and after your pregnancy. I used the "What to Expect" series. Thought they were great. Another book I referred to was "Eating Healthy for a Healthy Baby", by Fred Plotkin and Dana Cernea, M.D. Stay away from laxatives and powdered fiber substitutes. Eat as healthy as you can, stay away from processed and fast foods. Don't forget that whatever you are eating is going to your baby. That doesn't mean you can't indulge in a Big Mac once in a while! Don't forget to exercise. Walking will help keep you in shape and help with staying regular. Good Luck!!

Call your obgyn and find out what over the counter meds you can and cant take. I think you can take a gental stool softner. Dont feel stupid about asking that question, pregnancy (exspecially your first) can be a wonderful yet scary experience. You dont want to do anything that could bring harm to your unborn baby. If you ever have any questions like that, dont feel wierd about asking your obgyn.. you're not gonna ask him/her anything he hasnt heard aleady. Also, your body is gonna react differently to certain types of food. If you find you're prone to constipation, change your diet to include things like apple juice and eliminate those that cause it like bananas. Good Luck and take care.

You need to make sure that you are drinking enough water and getting enough fiber. Metamucil makes Fiber-Sure. It is a tasteless powder that you can add to any kind of food or drink. My OB/GYN told me it was safe to use. Just follow the directions on the package. Trying to force it will cause hemmroids. DO NOT use OTC remadies such as EX-Lax, or Senacot. Herbal Senna is extremely dangerous during pregnancy.

You're not getting enough fiber or drinking enough water. Drink more than you would normally & NO, soda doesn't count! Neither does tea because it's a diruetic & will just make you pee more. Flavored waters are ok too. Fiber can be easily gotten in oatmeal & broccoli.

yes you can but beware the nasty hemoroid thing going down which is normal in pregnant women. add more water to your diet and try some foods that are higher in fiber (grapes are good). it is your body adjusting to something new and it will settle down with time.......remember that from time to time cravings while your pregnant are normal but just make sure you balance it out .............when I was pregnant my doctor told me to take Vitamin C every morning with a glass of water to help with constipation because of the prenatal vitamins i was taking.

I always used to use Caro syrup in my kids bottles when they were constipated and it stands to reason that it would work for you and be healthy for the baby. Put it on pancakes or something it will work.. Also. walking helped me a lot!!
