Iran's unyielding stance appears to be based on the calculation that Russia and China, both veto-wielding permanent members of the Security Council, will oppose sanctions.
On Monday, the Iranian government insisted a hostile U.S. attitude was to blame for the crisis.
Even if Russia does veto sanctions will that stop the US? They have never listened to the UN before. Without the UN can America impose trade sanctions on thier own? I don't think they can ....but they could just attack and go to war - Will they?

Have you heard of these people called American's? They have invaded and or bombed at least 20 countries in the past 15 years most of those countries were never heard of before the Americans bombed them Chad for god sake Reagan was going to go after a nation in Africa named Chad - 20 people 5 goats and a handful of grain - Regan was inches away from B52 - ing them into the core of the earth.

We are not alone in our insistence that Iran never acquire nuclear capabilities. Their president has openly stated that Israel should be wiped off the map. If we don't get to them first with a big bomb smacking into their nuclear capabilities, Israel will. These are Persians in Iraq and Iran and even if we were to leave today, Muslims will continue to die in both countries because the ideologies of Islam are at war with one another. We are the most stabilizing influence in the region. A few (relatively speaking) nuts at the top of the heap have been indoctrinating the populace for 50 years. I blogged on this topic a couple weeks ago complete with video links of recordings where their most popular political and religious leaders preach hate, as in domination the world, as in death to America.

They won't go to war. They are too thinly spread at this time. What this comes down to is business and Iran, Russia, and China are business partners. The US hates Iran to put it simply but China is a huge trading partner and Russia could be a new economic friend to the states. I predict nothing will happen except a lot of saber-rattling by those involved.

I would hope that dialog and world opinion will sway the Iranians long before any military actions. With an Iran bent on the manufacture of a nuclear bomb, and boasts of wanting the destruction of Israel and the hatred of America I would hope that any American president, from any party, would have first and foremost on his or her agenda the protection of the United States of America. And I also hope they have the strength of character to do what ever it takes to assure it.

Come on. You know the US doesn't respect a thing the UN says unless it is 100% in agreement with administration policy.
I'm not objecting to this stance mind you...
It isn't going to require a war.. A bunch of bombs, a few attacks, even a few assasinations would do it.

The US will eventually have no choice but to attack if Iran develops and threatens to use nuclear weapons, we cannot wait for the UN to reach their usual conclusion to be useless.
