I have a Soyo PX400 Lite. The manual says I have the option to change the multiplier, but I don't (it's 12x). I can raise the CPU core speed by 1 MHz, but I can't even break 2 GHz before the computer refuses to boot. I've tried playing around with the memory. Any tips?

There should be an option in the bios to run optimal settings. Try that, it would usually set everything to automatic and read your cpu correctly. If I don't do that on my dad's computer, it ends up showing the same thing. But then again he has a ASUS mobo. Most of the new ones have it. Usually the motherboard book also has the specs on how to set the multiplier and stuff. Hope this helps!

Check your vendor and make sure you got a genuine CPU. Go online to the manufacturer website and see if the serial number is for the speed of the processor you purchased.

I agree with GNR, flash your BIOS to the latest version. Either that or the Motherboard will only report no higher than 1.6GHz
