Call HP tech support, they will help diagnose the problem. It can be anything from hardware failure to a virus. I hope it is still under warranty.

Your boot device is what the computer uses to start itself, it is your hard drive, and the computer can't find it. It may be damaged , it may have had the cables knocked loose, or maybe your BIOS needs reset. Have you made any recent changes? Make sure all the drive cables are firmly attached, esp if it's a SATA drive

Considering that the machine was not jarred or moved around during it's down-time (you say about a month time?) and it has not received any major TEMPERATURE-changes or HUMIDITY variances during this time, I would try to re-boot it from it's DOS-mode.

go with metallhd62 it's your hard drive, not your motherboard, try putting a boot disk in, this will prove it to you cause it will start, hp should have a recovery CD, use that
