I am looking into buying a nice suit, just because. But I don't really know the first thing about fashion, or what makes a suit good. All I know is that I want a good suit that will be pretty flexible, good in most formal occasions. Can anyone give me a certain guide, or some help on how to choose a suit?

Hey...

If you're going to buy one suit, make it Navy or Grey if you plan to use it for formal occasions or job interviews. Otherwise, buy Black for going out and social occasions. The suit should be 2 button, single breasted and in a solid color. Save the pinstripes and 3 button suits for when you have $$.

The suit should probably be medium/light weight, since you'll wear it year around. (suits are 100% wool in general)

For accessories, the tie should have the color of the suit and shirt in it if possible. You should not mix patterns (striped shirt & striped tie for example.) Shoes should be black, and the belt should match the shoes. You probably want a white shirt for job interviews.

Other than that...just buy what looks good and what compliments your style. The Men's Wearhouse is a really good place to shop as the suits aren't too expensive and the staff is knowledgable.

Be prepared to spend a little money for a good looking suit in wool (no cheap synthetic fabrics) and lined pants and skirt. Look for one in a neutral color such as black, dark gray and perhaps a subtle pin strip. A classic suit should also have all 3 pieces (skirt, pants, and jacket) for it to be the most fashion and occassion flexible. All pieces should be classically cut and may need to be tailored slightly for a perfect fit. Pants should be straight legged or wide legged and be long enough to wear with a pair of heeled shoes. Jackets should be no longer than your hip bone and nip in a bit at the waist to have a feminine look. Skirts should be around knee length with no excessive slits.

Look for color, fabric quality, and FIT. Make sure your suit fits, especially the pants.
