I have a Saturn SL2 (2000) with 115K miles. I recently had the oil changed (not sure if this matters). When I went to start my car this morning it was very slow to start. The "change oil" light comes on and goes off quickly once the car is running. After starting it ran fine. When I got to my destination I started it up a few times, and it started normally. No electrical problems apparent. I went to work, then when I left it was really slow to start up again. Took about 8 seconds of cranking. It has never done this before and I have no idea what the problem could be. If anyone could help me troubleshoot, that would be great. I'd rather not have to take it to the shop if its something simple, but I don't want to damage my car or drain my battery since it seems to have starting issues.

It could be those mentioned above: battery, starter would be first suspects. Have those checked out and go from there.

This problem can come from the battery. If the battery doesn't have the cranking amps that your car need It will lag. It can also come from the starter. Sometimes starters ware out and start to drag.

my 1991 honda accord had this problem too, but i dont know if it could be the same
like once in a while, my engine wouldnt start and i would have to do several tries to it with long 1 minute or more pauses inbetween each try
my mechanic checked it out and told me that it was my main relay, we got one from honda for 40 bucks and the problem never came back again

get a new battery. On the battery, i believe they have cranking power or something like that you may want to check out your number and go to your local auto part store and get a better battery that is compatiable with your car

Take it to a parts house and get them to check the Alt, if it checks out fine then its your starter.
