A martyr is someone who choose to suffer or die rather than give up their faith or principles such as died of defending his/her faith in a religion war, died in protecting his/her wealth from a robbery, died in eaking out for his/her family income, died sunk at the sea or swimming pool, died in car accident while going out for his/her works etc
They died in honourable actions and not for a foolish reason. The statement you heard was actually wrong.Maybe he/she made it as a joke.

i would like to say i know ANYTHING God thinks, but i do not, and will not. i can only attribute what i WISH God would think, as does anyone else on this Earth. claiming to know God to the point of knowing how he/she thinks is dangerous. next, it will be that God told us all to drink this kool-aid. no, it's all a personal interpretation, and on that front, i think martyrdom is overrated.

Well, the Christian God loves everyone. I think the statement means that deeds won't get you into heaven.

brainwashed individuals are not innocent of their crime, but gullable - innocent in believing it was okay. god will decide what to do with them.
many think they have no choice....die doing what they are told to do, or die not doing it. the coward is the murder puppet.

That's how a rational god would feel.
The gods of most religions are not reasonable, and they are not rational.
