my mother was just diagnosed with cancer, ao she cant drive me to school anymore, and i cant walk to school because it is about ten miles away from my home, them metro bus leaves at about 6:00 am in the morning, and i cant get up and get ready by that time. right now i have my uncle driving me but he is leaving the country for about two months, so my friend told me about a special license to just drive to school and back, and i was wondering if this is possible in the state of california. note: i only have a provisional permit, not a license.

Actually, the state may sympathize with your circumstances, but all that not withstanding, in California, they stopped doing that several years ago. Their ONLY concern is the PROBABLE safety of the roads, and a young inexperienced driver doesn't build confidence in you.
The best thing you could do is ask at the DMV office. If you live in an urban setting with dense population and heavy traffic, you may well be in a pickle. In a rural area, perhaps there could be SOME accommodation, but don't hold your breath.
Call 'em. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!
Sorry to hear about your mom. Hope she recovers. I just went through that with my daughter. terrible experience for her (and your mom).
