My husband and I are considering a move to Albuquerque. What are some good and bad things about the area?

We moved to ABQ from Chicago about 13 years ago. I wish we had moved here sooner!! I LOVE it here---the weather is fantastic, quality of air is wonderful, and I love the desert climate (low humidity=no mold), wildlife and plants. And even though it's the desert, we get all 4 seasons here--but the snow is always light and melts by noon (it only snows a few times a year in Albuquerque). The people here are much nicer than in the Chicago area--more laid-back, etc. The crime rate is also fairly low here. I also love the proximity to Santa Fe and to lakes and mountains. It's a beautiful and clean city, great weather, great food, and really affordable. The only downside would be if you like an urban atmosphere (I don't). The public schools aren't the best, but some areas are much better than others. I hope this helps!

Bad: Sprawl (Albuquerque is building out instead of up). Water (there's not a lot of it). Traffic (You do need a car).
Good: Weather. Traffic (despite what everyone says, ABQ does NOT have bad traffic compared to other metros). Attitude (ABQ is pretty laid back in general). Food (green chile sushi rolls anyone?).

We visited family there this summer and i have no desire to go back. We spend a lot of time in the water (@ the lake, river, water parks.etc). They don't have anything water related or much else to do at all.It is a beautiful and clean(for the most part)city but, once you see the historic sites that's about it. It was our first disappointing trip.my father traveled with his job and he advised me to be careful before we went because it can be dangerous.

* it's beautiful
* there's snow-skiing and also there are lakes nearby for boating and water-skiing, too
* there is the annual hot air balloon festival which is spectacular
* the weather is quite pleasant most of the time
