UTI's (urinary tract infections) are very common for pregnant women, especially if you've had them before, but they are also considered to be more serious while pregnant, because it can lead to a kidney infection.

The treatment I usually got was either Cipro or Macrobid, though once I stayed overnight in the hospital and had IV antibiotics, but I can't remember the name. They are usually these awful horse-sized pills, and you have to take them I think 3 times a day for a week.

I have had several of them, and I was treated four times during my pregnancy. I pretty much had the same symptoms each time:

frequent urination

a funny, kinda 'tickling from the inside' feeling as I went (not quite the burning sensation that most people feel)

feeling like I can't empty my bladder all the way

having to pee again 2 minutes after I last went

all of the sudden feeling like I have to go *now*

cloudy, bad smelling urine

Once, it progressed beyond there, and my symptoms that time also included severe back and side pain, nausea, and a very, very slight fever. That was the time I had the IV.

Like I said, it is a very common thing for a pregnant woman to experience, but you should tell your doctor very soon, if not tomorrow, that you think you have one, because it could turn into a kidney infection. They'll have you come in and pee in a cup, and the nurse will use one of those little test-strip thingys, and they'll tell you right away if you have one.

Good luck, and congratulations on the baby!

Symptoms of a bladder infection in both men and women include painful urination, a sudden strong desire to urinate, an increase in the frequency of urination, cloudy urine that spells bad, and blood in the urine. Large quantities of blood in the urine may be caused by an acute bladder infection. Many patients also experience fever, pain in the lower back, nausea and vomiting and shaking chills.

I didn't get one during pregnancy, but man-o-man I have had them before and it was super painful... In my case, all I had to do was call my doctor and explain the symptoms and I got medication called in immediately with an appt the next day, but it always depends on the doctor...

When I have them, I have to go to the bathroom constantly. I can go and be in the bathroom for an hour, and five minutes after coming out, I have to go again. When it gets really severe, I experience pain when urinating. I wasn't careful and allowed it to get very bad, now I can never have caffeine or it comes back.

yes, bladder infections are common in pregnancy. you'll have to pee a lot, your pee may or maynot burn, it'll smell nasty. It'll prolly be cloudy too. see your doc cause you can get a kidney infection. If that happens, you feel sick, run a fever, and you back by your ribs hurts. DRINK CRANBERRY JUICE!!!!!!!
