A day of mourning or remembrance yes.....a holiday no. A holiday is a celebration, there is nothing to celebrate on September 11 (my apologies to people who have birthdays or annuiversaries that day).

No. I think it would lose its significance, just as Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day (to a lesser degree) have.

From another angle...the rescuers that died on September 11 died because they did what they had to do. They put their fears aside and did their jobs as best they could. As a fellow firefighter/paramedic, I feel that the proper tribute to them is for everyone to go to work on that day and do what they need to do. Everybody plays an important role in society - not just firefighters, medics, and cops. What about teachers? Postal workers? Grocery workers? Truck drivers? Without each and every one of them, this country wouldn't function. Let's pay a tribute to those who were lost on Sept 11 by getting up every day and doing our jobs to the best of our abilities. Never forget the sacrifices that were made, but show the world that we are strong and will persevere.
