Insane isn't it! How can the Neoocn chickenhwks be OK with having these backdoor drafts to the retired military personnel. This will definitely bite them come November.

I've been an active member of the U.S.N. while in my 20s. Let me just say that now, at 40 something....I'm in better shape now & with wisdom to back up the physical capabilities. I'd rather face a nest of adders than a *woman* whose been trained with any weapon at any age.
The government is not what seems to be on your mind, not really. Veterans & benefits have always been an issue, but what you're implying is absolutely ludicrous. Care to test my reflexes, aim, reasoning ability, or skill? First sight, first kill.
I'm proud that though all our adversities, we...as Americans, are still swinging and trying. We haven't folded, not even in the wars we fight among ourselves. Stand tall, stand proud, and stand united.

I served as an Army Officer in the mid 1970's. I recently returned from 18 months in Iraq working as a DoD civilian in such fun places as Tikrit, Kirkuk and Baghdad. When I returned I contacted the army to see about reactivating my commission but even with my 6 years of prior service I missed the eligibility by 3 years.
I doubt you have served. If you had you would know serving isn't about money, benefits, thanks or firing automatic weapons for a living. It is about service; plain and simple. And at 52 years of age I weigh only 3 pounds more then when I was commissioned in 1976. Those that have served know it is a mater of duty and not "what's in it for me".

It is a long overdue adjustment that has been discussed for some time. Most jobs do not require running and gunning, but even if they do the 42 year old of 2006 is more than capable of this. I can run the mile faster, lift heavier weights and am in better overall condition than I was in high school. Many men my age are, I am 38, already been in the Army.

The U.S. has the best military that has ever existed on the face of the earth. I worked in a laboratory and on gas turbine engines when I was in the military, I think age would be a benefit in that type of job. Older people have more experience and are able to teach the younger soldiers and vise-versa.

I am a supporter of Disabled American Veterans, which is doing all it can for our war wounded veterans. The US government is cutting funding and in some extreme cases trying to deny these men the health benefits they deserve.
It's criminal the way we call every serving American serviceman/woman a Hero and then when they get hurt, we turn our backs on them. They deserve better from their government.
Support the DAV today. They care even when the government doesn't.

This, and other measure such as ignoring end-dates on enlistment contracts, stop-loss policies, and calling up retired inactive reserve, are how the military has avoided needing a draft... so far.

YES, and if I could I would go back in .. I served 3 tours of VietNam , and would have been there to today if our politicians had not gone coward and weak kneed on us.. Millions of people died when the red hoards flooded Cambodia and South VietNam,, some were friends of mine who could not escape the treachery of the DEMOCRATE liberal coward crackheads who abandoned the treaty they had made with South VietNam..

Well, he has stretched the military...not good if anything goes bad, such as North Korea or Iran. Iraq, of course, is a disaster.
The next president will probably need the draft to fix the problems...just my guess.

You are preaching to the choir my friend. We pay our servicemen less than teachers. ( Hard to believe that's possible ). We have no problem sending them to die, but we don't want to take care of them when they come back home.
And you are right, they are so far behind recruiting, pretty soon they are going to be raiding nursing homes.
I suppose that's what we get for our imperialistic attitude and trying to cram our beliefs down other countries throats.
