You can set your Verizon e-mail to forward all messages to your new account in the Settings menu, but you'll have to keep your Verizon account. If you cancel your service, you won't have an account to forward anything anymore.

Or you could just send a group e-mail to everyone in your contacts list telling them your new address. Let them figure it out.

You don't have to switch.

Yahoo will not get you online - it will only allow you to have a Yahoo e-mail address after Verizon or other internet service provider puts you online.

If you have a Verizon address, just go to Yahoo Mail and sign up for a Yahoo address. You can use one address for serious mail, hoping to avoid spam, and the other to noodle around. Many of us do.
