I need info about writing a professional, compassionate and well thought out letter to a federal judge asking for mercy and leniency for a man that has 4 small children and is a good man who was caught up with a company that broke the law. He no longer could afford a defense attorney and plead guilty to 2 of 4 counts of a white collar criminal offense. We need help to let this judge know the truth that this is out of character for this man, he is honest, hard working and a Christian. Any help would be greatly appreciated, he is facing 24 months in federal prison and we are requesting house arrest or probation because his wife is pregnant and he is the sole provider for his family.

I suggest that you enclose a large sum of money with the letter when sending it to the judge.

That way, you and the good honest, hardworking Christian man can share a prison cell.

Never send this type letter to a judge! It's against the law. Instead, Send it to your State Representative so he/she can contact the judge. Slip a few bucks in it the letter...the Reps always appreciate "donations". ;-)

Reading your question, I am torn but I choose to answer. I read a few answers before this, they are unsympathetic, as my initial reaction was. I am tired of white collar crime, ENRON, need I say more. However your question noticeably does not say this person is Innocent. I must say that if he were you would be emphatic about that. People do make mistakes, I get that, I have made mistakes myself. My best advice to you admit the wrong (if guilty) stop fighting it it looks bad, communicate with probation, consider jail may actually be the best thing to turn this person around (should this not be a first offense).

And on a final personal note, so what that he is christian. Assuming he did what he did, that christian thing didn't mean **** then, why should it mean something now? If he is gulity he wasn't looking out for his fellow man then. Now there's supposed to be sympathy for it now. Christians aren't people who should get extra special considerations, they are mere humans as we all are. If we make a mistake, if we do wrong, we pay, or should at least.

if its his first criminal offence and hes is only facing 24 months he should be ok, depending on the judge, most judges are leniate towards white collar and as long as you write in your letter that he is trying to fix the problem and is actually doing something in his life they should allow probation, but what it all comes down to is the facts in the crime, so go ahead write the letter... splurge a little, make things seem better/ worser as needed and the judge should allow him to be releived

Not to sound mean or ignorant or anything, but shouldn't he have thought about all of this BEFORE he did whatever he did. Even if it was "the company" he was keeping he knew about it or whatever happened and did nothing about it , putting himself and basically his family at risk ..so he should accept the punishment that fits the crime and I'm sure the judge knows best.

Oh BOO HOO, poor white collar criminal facing 24 mths in federal prison. He should have thought about his family and the consequences of his crimes before he committed the crime.

Just because he has 4 small children why should he be any different than anyone else? He broke the law and need to pay. God bless you and him. I am not sure of the severity of the crime, but the law is the law.
