(I don't know what category to put this in!) Who has ever heard of a female child born without a vagina? My spouse has a family member who give birth to a female child 40 plus years ago with that problem. Somewhere along the line, probably as an infant, she had reconstructive surgery to construct a semblance of the orifice. I don't know if other parts of the reproductive tract were missing, but the child grew up normally in all other aspects, intelligence, etc. She is happily married to a person who admittedly did not want children.

Lily, the subject came up only once when my spouse mentioned to me that her sister's girl, her neice, had this problem. It has not been a subject that ANYONE other than the closest family, not even some of her seven other siblings are aware of. I thought in the relative ambiguity and friendly, helpful atmosphere of "Yahoo Answers", I could learn how rare this might be!!! Please do not be so uptight!

Hmmmm I was thinking you were going to ask about hermaphytes(sp) where some children are born with a penis and a vagina and the parents must choose which sex they want. It's entirely possible to be born without a vagina , because I've never heard of it , doesn't make it not true. LOL

It sounds like it turned out for the best and the young woman probably knew she'd never be able to have kids and so it wasn't a huge problem to her.

I haven't ever heard of that, but I knew a girl who was born without an anus (or it was not connected to the intestines or something). She had surgery as an infant and more surgeries later on. I'm grateful I wasn't born with any defects!

Yes, it happens along with many others but, the individuals TODAY have greater than average possibilities for medical help. That's one of the wonderful things about living in today's world of technological and medical and scientific advances.

What difference does it make? With all the people in the world I am sure someone else has born with this birth defect. There is something wrong with people who enjoy chatting about such things. You probably enjoy going to sideshows too. Shame on the family members that talk about her private medical problems.

It is a known and documented occurrence.

have a look at the google search link there - there are case reports and a few good website (emedicine) and the RANZCOG (royal australian and new zealand collage of obstetrics and gynaecology) are quite authoritative.

I have heard of this. One of my cousin's cousins or something like that. They did the same reconsructive surgery thing and she didn't live a life that was all that abnormal.
