The fuel pump will not come on when started and Jeep will start but die if you try to put it in drive and will sputter out even after a few seconds in park. Hopefully it is the fuel pump. Does anyone know if somewhere like Tuffy or MOnroe can take care of this or do I have to go to the dreaded Jeep dealership? Any advice on the cars problem is welcome, too. Thanks

For that little gem, expect to pay about $100.00 for the pump and somewhere around $300.00 for the labor.
The fuel tank has to come down for the repair. If the tank is full, it adds a bit of time.
Most any shop can perform this for you.
Before you spend that much money, just for ducs, check the fuel pump fuse and the fuel pump relay. All are out in the engine compartment and are clearly identified.

TIP----> Try to stay in the habit of keeping at least 1/4 tank of fuel in your car. The engineers that designed it put the pump in the tank for two reasons. It is protected there, and they use the fuel in the tank to absorb the heat from the pump and dissipate it out in the air around the tank.
If you continue to drive a great deal on a low tank, there isn't enough MASS to absorb the heat, and the pump will overheat and fail.

Good Luck

Did you hit a solid bump lately? If yes, it could be a fuel shut off valve that kicks in automatically on some vehicles when the vehicle thinks there has been an accident. Check your owners manual or a repair manual and see if there is a reset for this first. On some vehicle there is a reset button on the passenger side inside the vehicle up under the dash near the side panel and it will say "Fuel Reset" - if you have one, you need to press it in and hold it for the count of ten usually to reset. But, check the books to be sure.

any good mechanic can fix it,,as long as he has a place to do it in,you have to drop the tank to put it in,,but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put a fuel pump in,,and make sure you get one with a life time warranty on it,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.,,it may just be a bad fuel pump relay on it,,have them check that also.
