When a child is adoped, does he/she take the surname of the adoptive parents?

only if the adoptive parents want the child to have their last name & make it legal with a judge, other then that if a child doesn't want their adoptive parents last name, the child doesn't have to.

the adoptive parents generally rename the child and give them their surname
