people named christopher are called chris for short!
people named robert are called rob or bob for short!
tell me how is it that peggy is short for margaret? No similarity there! How did they come up with that one? Do you know?

Hey, meemeemee40 took my answer. I have no idea. Usually though I think they would go by Marge or Margie since my Aunt's name is Margaret but peggy I don't know. Actually I have another Aunt who's real name is Elizabeth and goes by Betty. Shouldn't it just be Beth or Liz? I guess you can get Betty from that easier than Peggy from Margaret though. Who knows where people come up with their nicknames.

I thought Maggi or Margi was short for Margaret, I've never heard of Peggy. Maybe its cause Peggy kind of sounds like Maggi.
