I don't think there is anything you can say to an abused women. Breaking away from abuse is like breaking away from a heroin addiction. You don't think you can make it without him and your self esteem is so low you block out the good in you. You supress reality so that you don't have to deal with it. Just like a drug addiction before you can break away from an abusive relationship first your eyes have to be open to what is really going on and that it is wrong on many levels. I don't know how people help people who are addicted to drugs, but it must be the same answer to people who are stuck in abusive relationships. I was in one for six years and don't know what exactly happened to realize what was going on. I just looked at him one day and realized not only did I not love him, i didn't even like him. All of a sudden he was ugly and stupid and worthless to me and I was going to get away from him no matter what.

You tell her to get out and you hand her all of the information to do so safely. There are plenty of battered women's shelters out there. Covenant House is one of the shelters around here. Maybe they have more chapters.

If she's getting them from her hubbie or boyfriend you tell her that she needs to get out of that situation. The next time she may not be so lucky! If they'll hit her once ( or twice) she needs to get away from them. There are places for her to go!

if she is YOU........ leave and get help...... go to the police...... once a hitter always a hitter...... if it is a friend..... all you can do is tell her you are there for her, and that she does NOT have to live like that..... NO ONE has the right to hit another person..... that is NOT LOVE....... and if you are the one that hit her ?? well, all that I can say is that you are a dirty, rotten, low down, lower than pond scum, sorry excuse of a man, in fact you are NOT a man at all..........God bless
