Simple 4 step process for each.

Handling Solid Reagents

When massing a reagent use a weigh boat that has been counterbalanced by rezeroing the scale after the weigh boat is on it.

Remove the cap form the bottle and place it face up on the counter to avoid picking up contaminants from the table and to avoid depositing the chemical on the table.

Use a clean spatula to take the reagent from the bottle to the weigh boat. If you take more than you need, use the spatula to take the reagent back out of the weigh boat and put it back into the bottle. Do not, however, replace reagents that have been taken back to your table because this could cause contamination.

Be sure to recap the bottle after you have finished using it. Bottles left open can be contaminated or spilled easily.

Handling of Liquid Reagents

When using a penny stopper, place it between two fingers and remove it.

Keep the stopper help in your hand between your fingers. Setting it down on the table could cause both the chemical to become contaminated and also leave the liquid on the table.

Use an eyedropper to take what you need from the bottle and put it into a graduated cylinder for measuring. Using an eyedropper will prevent spilling and help you to control the amount of liquid you are taking more precisely.

Pour the liquid from the graduated cylinder down a glass stirring rod to help control the flow and prevent spillage and splashing.
