My leg becomes very tired and heavy sometimes and it's because of the spider veins I got appearing on my leg. It is very uncomfortable and it keeps me from doing things sometimes. Will insurance cover treatment to get them treated?

The key question is "Is the surgery medically necessary?"

If your doctor's records show that he has determined the surgery to be medically necessary, you should have no trouble getting it taken care of by the insurance company. Relief of pain is normally a valid medical necessity. Improved appearance in that case would be an extra benefit of the surgery but would not cause rejection of the coverage due to cosmetic effect.

Once you have gotten your doctor's determination, seek pre-approval from the insurance company before the surgery to avoid an unpleasant surprise. They may want some sort of extra evidence of the medical need for surgery that would be difficult or impossible to obtain if you have already had the surgery.

Best wishes.

When I turned 28 I already had been in pain, embarrassed, and scared of becoming pregnant. I didn't want my big blue varicose veins to get worse. The All Natural Varicose & Spider Vein Solution program was an easy read and easy to do. Within 21 days there was a big difference in how my legs looked and I can wear shorts without feeling embarrassed. I feel so much better with more energy and for giving me back a healthier body, and the legs that a 28 year old should have.

Naturally heal your veins?

As a couple of other answerers have observed, insurance companies either view spider vein removal as cosmetic or as medically necessary. If you already have insurance, you might refer to your problem as having varicose vein pain and discomfort because spider veins are small varicose veins and as such as are often treated as cosmetic problems. Your doctor should tell you whether you need to have the veins removed. The insurance company will review the request and look for whether the veins cause severe discomfort that limits your day-to-day activities; whether you have tried nonsurgical methods to relieve the pain; how large the veins are (I’ve read that anything over 4mm is considered medically significant; secondary complications that can further erode your day-to-day quality of life.

Spider veins are considered cosmetic and are not covered by any insurance plan. But if you have leg pain, see a vascular surgeon, that consult will be covered to ensure you are not suffering from venous insufficiency.

I doubt so. But anyhoo, check with your insurance agent/company and ask.

There's no harm in asking to see what you are entitled to (:
