I got them on my lower back when I was in high school. Was not overweight at all. Now, I'm really fat and I do have them on my stomach. I hear they can be caused by hormones too.

Yes. If you do it too quickly, the skin doesn't have time to react to the stretching or relaxing properly.
Everyone is different. That means that some will get them, and some will not. If you look at some of the NBA players, their arms (near the shoulders) have stretch marks due to gaining muscle mass too quickly for the skin to regenerate and stretch with the new mass. I remember seeing David Robinson when he played, and noticing the marks a lot on his arms.
I have them on my legs from losing weight too quickly, which caused my skin to relax too much too soon.

Yeah! Haven't you seen some of those body builders up close? Loosing weight if you're not tone will just hang or be saggy but not get stretch marks. If you grow very rapidly, it also happens. Sister stretched tall so fast one year in high school that she was in a lot of pain and had stretch marks behind her knees, (she wasn't heavy!)

Yes, if it is done too quickly. The skin doesn't have time to adjust. I've heard that vitamin E lotion helps to fade them but I have never tried it.
