I actually use "lot" in the form which you mentioned.
I like using the England-English words for things and freaking people out too.
For example, "Get that f@g out of here!"
"F@g" is England-English for cigarette.

I enjoy using those words as well. "Whilst" is one of my absolute favorites...it's the English version of "while." I believe we Americans don't use their words because of their roots.
There was a little event back a few hundred years ago. You may have heard of it...the Revolutionary War. That was when the United States became the United States. I think America wanted to break all ties with Britain/England/Europe in general. This, in my opinion, also included their language which ultimately has affected our speech in modern times.

down here in the south we use "lot" like that, and yonder. when we say the word "spunky" here where i live, it means full of life and vibrant, energetic. spunky means sperm in england. i like my words that we use, thanks :).
