From my personal experience, any sort of lights/gauges stuff usually means the alternator is going bad. This sounds different, though. You must have a short somewhere, or maybe there is a problem with your breakers?

If you remove the instrument cluster, you will find two harness plugs that connect the cluster to the car and wiring harness.
Remove the plugs and the cluster and inspect the cluster circuit film very closely for fissures (cracks) in any of the foil conductors.
If there aren't any, chances are that the connectors are not creating a secure connection. If all of the gauges etc. fail, but the SRS light comes on, it indicates to ME that you might have a ground circuit failure, and the instruments are trying to ground through the SRS lamp.

Good Luck

Loose connection in the wiring harness somewhere. Unfortunately it's under the dash and they don't want to hassle with it. When it gets too annoying, find another mechanic or remove the dash and find the loose connection. This is probably not going to be a cheap repair, so shop around if you're not comfortable with doing it yourself.
