Somebody I know died of a drug overdose from cocaine, morphine, and xanax. It was ruled accidental. How do they know it was not a suicide? The amounts are as follows 0.10 mg/L of alprazolam (xanax), 0.43 mg/L of cocaine, and 0.025 mg/L morphine in the blood. And in the urine was more than 2.0 mg/L of morphine. He also had marijuanna, but it did not contribute to his death.

try to look for something with these three ingredients, if you found one in his house, then it can be either of the two.. if not, it's most probably suicide. [i don't think a person will die accidentally because of three different substances if it's not combined in one mixture.]

Well, it's actually based on the experiences of the individuals that investigated the matter. For example, if the individual was found neatly lying down and there are empty jars nearby, no forced entrance or evidence of foul play (someone tampering, someone forcing the pills down the mouth of the victim, etc) whereas if the person looks like he/she fell while he/she was walking to the bed or to the refrigerator or while watching TV.... that doesn't look like the person "planned" to drop dead, right? Oftentimes, people experiment on different drugs for a different effect or the ingest different drugs not knowing that it can or will cause death, and it is ruled accidental overdose.

The circumstances vary and it just takes someone to know what to look for; that's why photos are carefully taken of the body and the surrounding "environment" so that they can also be viewed by others more experienced.

Well... When it comes to overdosing on drugs, it is hard to tell.

I would assume there would be suicide note if it was done on purpose... Also, there are usually red flags... for example, did your friend start giving away personal items to people before he died? Things that might have meant something to him, or things that usually cost a lot of money, etc. Did he say things like, "The world would be better off without me..." or "I hate living in this world and I wish it would all just end..." etc.

If things like that did happen, then it is quite possible it was a suicide...

Sorry to hear about your friend.
