multiply both sides by 2x-8 and 3x+9 and collect terms.
Left side: (2x+8)(3x+9) = (3x-9)(2x-8)
6x^2 + 42x + 72 = 6x^2 - 42x + 72
subtract the right side from both sides
0x^2 + 84x + 0 = 0
84x = 0
x = 0
Which works back in the original equation;
0+8 / 0-8 = 0-9 / 0+9

You must use FOIL to expand this out, and then bring all the variables and numbers to the left side. This leaves 0 on the right side. Gather like terms and do the arithmetic on them.To make the numbers easier you may have to multiply both sides by negative 1. For example (x+1)(x-1)=(2x+3)(2x-3)
x^2-x+x-1=4x^2-6x+6x-9
x^2-1=4x^2-9 , "move" the right side to the left
x^2-1-4x^2+9=0 , gather like terms
x^2-4x^2 -1+9=0
-3x^2+8=0 , multiply both sides by negative 1
3x^2-8=0 , add 8 to both sides
3x^2=8 ,divide by 3 on both sides
x^2= (8/3) , take the square root of both sides.
x=squareroot(8/3) or -squareroot(8/3)
You can "remove" 4 from the numerator as the square root of 4 is 2 to get the answers:
x=2squareroot(2/3) or x=-2squareroot(2/3)

Cross Multiply:
(2x+8)(3x+9)=(3x-9)(2x-8)
6x squared +18x+24x+72=6x squared-24x-18x+72
subtract 6x squared from both sides
42x+72=-42x+72
Subtract 72 from both sides
42x=-42x
add 42x to both sides
42x+42x=-42x+42x
84x=0
x=0
Good luck!

Hmm, you may need to find the value of x. I would suggest that if you're not getting any helpful answers here to visit these sites; http://www.infoplease.com/homework/ or http://www.math.com/
I would love to help you with the process and answer to the problem however I am horrible with math equations.

guess and check
put a number in place of x, and solve
?does it come out as true? if yes, viola! you have your answer, if not, try a new number.
4 won't work as it makes the denominator = 0
so it must be larger than 4

Cross-multiply (don't forget FOIL!)
Group like terms.
Solve as you would any other equation.
