Because you have been BEATEN DOWN and made to feel worthless and less than HUMAN.
STOP This IMMEDIATELY!
STOP letting him ABUSE you -- STOP thinking about him and feeling SORRY for his NASTY, VIOLENT behind! STOP enabling his VIOLENCE -- and ...
START standing up PROUD -- yes, PROUD -- because HE could NEVER have survived this LONG if HE was the one on the receiving end of what he has dished out on YOU!
Get your clothes, get your property, know the information you need to about his assets and everything else -- and GET OUT and GET SAFE!!!!!!!

I felt bad for my ex when we split.; He wanted to SAVE the marriage. I realized i was caring him.. He was in capable of taking care of himself. He was a lazy bead beat who cheated at least once. He could not hold a job was not a good father selfish controlling and self involved. I KNEW it was best 4 me to be on my own he was drowning me. I still feel sorry 4 him he has not moved up in life since the split. I have made major improvements. It's just natural i guess to feel some guilt. I did / do love him he's just dead weight.

That's their(the ones that abuse) trick isn't it. To make women feel bad or guilty. That was why he keep mistreating you ( not your fault, let me get that straight) your are too nice of a person. He took advantage of that.
Be strong the guilt will pass.
