Availability of cheap energy will make life much easier. It means cheap travel, cheap agricultural production cheap industrial production and so on .

You got to be kidding, right?
$2.00 a gallon heating oil and $3.00 a gallon fuel and, on top of that, my electric utility bills - they're crippling my ability in my pursuit of happiness - and that's suppose to be a basic right!
Add to that our very dangerous dependency on oil from countries that we're not exactly going to invite to our next cookout and you've got a formula for economic disaster.
We HAVE to wean ourselves from this dependency on crude oil and it's by-products - and the only way to accomplish this goal is through alternative energy research and development of new and less expensive sources of energy.
You can bet the farm that Exxon / Mobile won't be leading the way, that's for sure!

if energy production is enhanced ( of course through research ) then we don't have to worry for about loss of energy supply for the next years...
