Just subtract 5 from both sides to isolate the variable b.

b+5= -13
b+5 -5 = -13 -5
b + 0 = -13 -5
b= -18

Hope that helps!

The answer is negative 18 (-18)

If you think about it, b was at negative eighteen but you ADD 5 to it which brings it closer back to zero (to -13).
