22000 x (3/11) = 6000

check:
16000 barons fans
6000 blue sox fans

16000:6000 is the same ratio at 8:3

x=baron's fans=8
y=blue sox fans=3
t=total=11 (assuming bare minimum because you can't have fractions of people)

you get 3 proportions from this:
x/y=8/3
x/t=8/11
y/t=3/11

since you are finding y you can setup the following equation substituting the actual vaule of t which in this case in 22000

so, you would set the two important proportions equal to each other to find the value of y:
3/11=y/22,000
(cross multiply) 3*22,000=11y
66,000=11y
y=6000

get it sir?
