Because, your muscles hold your bones in place. In this case it's the vertebrae. As your vertebrae move out of alignment, or become subluxated, they put pressure on your spinal cord which may or may not cause you pain as less than 10% of the nerves in your body are responsible for sending pain messages. But, when the vertebrae move, your muscles try to maintain their position, therefore putting pressure on them. Go see a chiropractor and not one of the voodoo kind. See one who specializes in straight chiropractic.

Muscle spasms cause the pain ... the question is did the brain order the muscles to contract, which it obviously can do, or were the muscle spasms caused by a simpler physical thing. Like lifting something heavy or a less simple disease ... hope not!

It's easy, you can find out what's caused your back pain.

Or...is the question really the other way around? Why are muscle spasms accompanies with back pain?
