This is very common when quiting smoking. Nicotine like caffeine stimulates the bowel. Your bowel has to be trained to go on it's own now. It is very important to clear this up as soon as possible because not going can make you sluggish. This in turn can make you want to smoke again.
1. Drink plenty of water throughout the day
2. Eat as many fruits and veggies as you can.
3. Eat cereals that are high in fiber.
4. Eat Beans
Basically, read labels, the higher the fiber content, the better it will help Mother Cereal is one, also raisin bran, and crackling oat bran.
5. Get some exercise.
If you must take colace each night until you get regular again. Good Luck! Be prepared to eat high fiber foods for the rest of your life!
Congrats on quitting smoking!

The nicotine in cigarettes is a stimulant. Most laxatives use stimulants to help you go.
Quitting caffeine can have similar effects.
Try a laxative or upping your caffeine intake some until you body gets used to the lack of nicotine.
If laxatives don't work. Go to the Dr.

Smoking is a stimulant, so your body is probably used to it helping your system to 'go'. In fact, there are people who dont smoke who will have a cigarette to help them when they are constipated. Try a stool softener.

Nicotine acts as a laxative. Increase the fiber in your diet, coffee can also help but not a good replacement for fiber.

Nicotine has a laxative effect because they stimulate nerves that increase intestinal contractions. so since u stopped smoking, you dont go as often now.

changes will take place in your body's functions.. I would think that you probably changed your diet which would contribute to changes in bowel habits. Are you taking Wellbutrin or Zyban? They can change your system too.
