There have been quite a few US Presidents who were also generals. These include George Washington, Andrew Jackson, William Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Dwight Eisenhower, Ulysses Grant and Rutherford Hays. Teddy Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were military men, but did not obtain the rank of general.
Likewise, George W. Bush was in the reserves as a lst lieutenant.
