The white man did this and the white man did that. Hey guess what, most of the slaves were traded into slavery by other blacks for goods that the white man provided. I learned about this in history class, coastal tribes took prisoners from disputes with inland tribes and bartered with them. The white man bought them, but the black man sold them. Straight up.

Besides if it weren't for slavery, you'd probably be lion **** on the Sarenghetti right now. How does that make you feel?

lol when ever i hear this it makes me laugh for one the White man never took them from Africa the protegees did Portugal got rich off the slave trade and as far as i know they aren't white lol IMHO the only ones that should be complaining is the native Americans we stole their land blacks and whites the Buffalo soldiers ring a bell. yes slavery was wrong but at least the slaves never had blankets full of smallpox. given to them and the blacks can go back home can the Indians? and the slaves were coutned as 3/4 of a man the indains were lower than a dog . and how bout the Irish up north they were treated much worse.

One thing you might want to bear in mind, slavery did exist long before the Portuguese arrived into Central Africa, but the Europeans were the first to actually use slavery as a weapon. This is what I mean.

Europeans, who posessed firearms, would incite disputes between African nations and tribes and offer guns to each side. However, the only thing the Europeans would accept in trade was human slaves. The result was, each tribe would first make attacks against its neighbors to gain prisoners as slaves, then when this wasn't providing enough slaves the king or chief would then attack and enslave his own villages. The end result was always the same, the last slave onto the ship was the chief or king.

Also, slavery as it existed in Africa before the arrival of Europeans and slavery as it existed in the West Indies and the US were completely different. The African owner by tradition was expected to take on some responsibilities for the welfare of the slave, while the Europeans and Americans looked at slaves as purely property, like a mule or a wagon, to be used, abused, sold and destroyed depending on what was the most economical need of the day.

Somehow, I don't think I am going to be chosen as the best answer.

You make a point, if people are going to complain they should at least know the facts of the subject, especially if it is their heritage. And as Ryan pointed out that was a practice that Portugal started. It is funny how people will go on and on about a topic that they know little about or that they haven't spent any time researching the topic themselves. I am a native American and I do not hold a grudge against anyone for what happened. Let's be realistic, it is survival of the fittest and that is human nature. Conditions of the "civilized" societies are always improving and people will always look back and critique the practices of the past. Many will look upon us and say that our treatment of the environment, animals, children, elders, whatever it may be; and say that we were "uncivilized" in our treatment.

We need to learn from our history and not use it as an excuse for our current conditions and expect a free pass in life.

actual, you won't have the ability to chat for each individual. There are some 'whites' that wholeheartedly hate 'blacks' with a burning hobby. There are others who do no longer. No no no, racism isn't a fantasy and it is ALIVE and correctly in society in the present day. basically because of the fact we've a 'black' president, does no longer mean racism is over. (some do no longer even evaluate him an entire 'black') If something, there is greater racism in the present day than ever. Inadvert racism, in case you will. Like once you're making an commercial, you could placed a 'minority' on your advert. as a substitute of desiring a definite individual of their advert, they want them of their advert so as that they gained't look prejudice/racist. it is notably unhappy.

Slavery existed long before, bringing Blacks from the "Serengeti". It existed in other cultures Indian, European and many others. Who do you think the Egyptian homes, temples etc back in Mose's day. Examining other cultures (Asian) slavery was considered a acceptable human condition. In America, Blacks were treated worst than the lowest beast of burden, systematically neutralized to being sub-human. Culture and identity nullified forced to accept a culture that considered itself to be "civilized". Look at the motivations for black slavery back in early American history. It was and is to build a country. The affects of slavery continue to this day in our culture. You have to be in it to recognize it. Sad but true, most of history that is being taught today has been cleaned up to make living with it easier for the white man. Please don't be upset when one day you realize that what you have been taught in school about American History is lies. Learn it well so that you can recognize a lie when you hear one. Slavery in any form was wrong and still is. Widen your world and open your eyes, grasshopper.

I dislike when other races blame one race for their inflictions some 200 years agao. They should not just outright blame all white people trying to make them feel guilty. Pointing fingers at one race doesn't solve problems. It makes more hatred and stirs up the hot pot with more dissension. This is story of suffering and pain that should be healed with love and concern. You should value and judge every person as a soul and not a color. Slavery is wrong no matter who does it to who. Believe it not, GOD'S people were slaves to Egypt for 400 years. It is a sad story, of not who is master or who is slave but of a time that has taken on a different perspective. Judge your own character and look within yourself before pointing fingers. You may be pointing them at yourself and the view you take with your hatred and not your value of others.

What an extremely arrogant ,ignorant, disrespectful and intentionally incendiary and contentious question. This is a serious and sensitive subject. You could have asked your question in a far more intelligent way. This isn't really a valid question because your intention is simply to annoy people. You have succeded. And that crack about the Serengeti. What the hell was that? You didn't even spell it correctly. This site has a spelling checker you know? And it doesn't make sense. How would a human have become a lion? "How does that make you feel"? Are you referring to your question or the crack about the Serengeti. What are you twelve years old? I don't mean to be condescending but... Oh wait, yes I do. What else did you learn in class today? It wasn't enough. Go back to class. Straight up.

I'd rather fight lions and poverty than some inbred 5th gen biggot who has no legit reason to hate other than your father/uncles outdated beliefs, then yes, buy me a ticket back to Mexico or Africa.

-Yeah OK
For me it is like get over it. You are the ones who insist on cranking out a bunch of fatherless children and sitting on welfare while the white working majority support your crack selling rears.

What planet are you from? You are severely misinformed. "White working majority support". the only reason you think this is because the white majority MEDIA only shows welfare abusing Blacks. Life is more than Yahoo and MTV. Get out and experiecnc life before making ignorant statements like that.

The issues that blacks in the United States have today are not so much with slavery - but with prejudice. Although, we should never forget the injustices that happen to our fellow man - the Holocaust, slavery, genocide of other ethnic groups, etc. lest they happen again!

Slavery has no relevance in Black America today at all. The fact that MY great grandfather was a farmer in Denmark did not get me through graduate school, it did not buy my home, it did not earn me my last year's salary and the fact that some Black guy's great grandfather was a slave does not keep him OUT of graduate school, limit the amount of money he can ear, nor force him to drink Thunderbird Wine. We are the products of OUR OWN hard work, laziness, or bad life choices.
